Beijing, Oct. 10, 2024 (Lusa) - A pavilion of Portuguese products was inaugurated on Thursday in Wangfujing, one of Beijing's busiest shopping streets, as part of a co-operation agreement between the municipality of Oeiras, in the Lisbon district, and a district of the Chinese capital.
The 96 square metre pavilion displays 18 brands from 12 Portuguese companies. On the monitors set up along Wangfujing, in the style of the iconic screens that cover the buildings in New York's Times Square, Portuguese tourism videos will also be projected.
"We've been given a 'premium' location, thanks to the partnership between Oeiras and the Dongcheng district, and we're taking advantage of it to exhibit Portuguese products," Nuno Lima Leite, delegate for AICEP (the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade) in Beijing, told Lusa.
Located close to Tiananmen Square, Wangfujing is one of the busiest shopping streets in the Chinese capital, with between 200,000 and 300,000 people passing through every day, according to the authorities.
The Portuguese pavilion will be on display until 18 October.
The co-operation agreement was signed last year between the mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, and the Communist Party secretary of the Dongcheng district, Sun Xinjun.
