Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes with PSI index up 0.49% bucking European trend

Lisbon, Sept. 4, 2024 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed higher on Wednesday, with its main index (PSI) advancing 0.49% to 6,739.83 points and the EDP group leading the risers.

Of the 16 listed companies that are included in the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Exchange Index), seven were up, six were down and three were unchanged.

EDP Renováveis rose 2.85% to €14.79 and EDP advanced 1.84% to €3.87.

On the downside, Mota-Engil tumbled 8.46% to €2.79.

Also supporting the PSI's rise were the enhancements of CTT (1.47% to €4.48), REN (0.84% to €2.40), NOS (0.70% to €3.58), BCP (0.68% to €0.41) and Semapa (0.42% to €14.26).

Conversely, Jerónimo Martins fell 1.18% to €16.75, Corticeira Amorim dropped 0.66% to €8.98 and Altri fell 0.50% to €4.81.

Navigator (€3.65) and Galp (€18.03) fell by less than 0.50 %.

Sonae (€0.96), Ibersol (€7.24) and Greenvolt (€8.30) ended unchanged.

The main European stock markets ended in the red, mainly due to fears of a slowdown in the US economy. Paris fell by 0.98%, Frankfurt by 0.83%, Madrid by 0.58%, Milan by 0.54% and London by 0.35%.

The major Asian markets also closed down. Tokyo was down 4.24%, Hong Kong 1.2% and Shanghai 0.6%.
