Lisbon, Sept. 4, 2024 (Lusa) - Portugal's stock market continued to fall on Wednesday morning, with the benchmark PSI (Portugal Stock Index) dropping 0.71% to 6,659.48 points, on a morning when all Europe's markets were in the red, and with shares in construction group Mota-Engil down 8.52%.
By 8.49 a.m. only one of the index's consituent shares was up on Tuesday's close - Sonae, which rose 0.10% to €0.96 - with 12 down and three unchanged.
Mota-Engil shares fell sharply again, by 8.52% to €2.79. This was followed by Jerónimo Martins, which fell 1.71% to 16.66 euros and Galp, which was quoted at €17.86, down 0.94%.
Also falling were Navigator (0.77% to €3.63), BCP (0.58% to €0.41), Corticeira Amorim (0.44% to €9), NOS (0.42% to €3.54), EDP Renováveis (0.42% to €14.32), REN (0.21% to €2.37), EDP (0.24% to €3.79), Semapa (0.28% to €14.16) and Altri (0.29% to €4.82).
Three of the PSI's consituent shares remained unchanged: CTT (€4.41), Greenvolt (€8.30) and Ibersol (€7.24).
The European stock markets opened in the red today, affected by the fall on Wall Street on Tuesday and by the Asian markets.
At 8.23 a.m. Lisbon time, the London stock exchange's FTSE 100 index was down 0.70%, the Paris index was down 0.86% and Frankfurt was down 0.94%. In Madrid, the Ibex 35 was down 0.87% and in Milan the stock market was down 0.92%.
The euro was still quoted at $1.1059, slightly up on Tuesday.
