Lisbon, July 31, 2024 (Lusa) - Arrears fell to €575.9 million by June, compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by the Directorate-General for the Budget (DGO).
"At the end of June, public entities’ arrears totalled €575.9 million, which represents a decrease of €144.1 million compared to the same period last year and an increase of €40.2 million compared to the previous month," said the DGO in its summary of budget implementation.
The decrease compared to last year is due to the reduction in the health sector (-€211.7 million), Reclassified Public Entities (-€13.9 million) and Local Government (-€9.1 million), explains the DGO.
As for the monthly trend, which shows an increase in overdue payments, "the biggest contribution was made by the EPE Health Units (€41.2 million), slightly attenuated by the decrease in Local Government (-€2.8 million)’.
