Lisbon, July 19, 2024 (Lusa) - Portugal's airport manager, ANA, said on Friday that constraints are expected at national airports as a number of airlines and handling companies are affected by the global failure of the Microsoft system, asking passengers to ask about the status of their flight before heading for the airports.
In a response to Lusa, ANA - Aeroportos Nacionais explained that some airlines and ground handling companies are being affected by a computer failure, which is causing constraints, particularly in check-in and boarding of some flights.
The airport operator said that ‘the computer system at Portuguese airports has not been directly affected’.
At the moment, the company's official source said, ‘the impact of this situation is being assessed and constraints on airport operations are expected to affect airlines and other airports’.
It therefore asks passengers to find out the status of their flight before travelling to the airport.
A global fault in Microsoft's system is causing problems for numerous companies, including airlines, financial, media and other industries in various parts of the world.
