ALGIERS- The member of the Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament), Nouara Saadia Djaafar, taking part at the Universal Women's Leadership Forum in Strasbourg, France, shed light on Algeria's efforts for a peaceful settlement of crises and the promotion of the role of women and young people in peace operations, the upper house said Sunday in a statement.
In a speech at the forum, wrapped up Friday, Djaafar said "promoting peaceful settlement of crises, boosting the role of women and young people in peace operations and international counterterrorism are Algeria's top priorities as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council," the statement said.
In an address at a workshop on "women's leadership in strengthening peace and the settlement of crises," Djaafar said "the role of women in the promotion of peace is increased through recruitments and strong presence of women in security bodies."
The speaker stressed the efforts of Algeria in "bolstering the role of women in restoring peace and security and in all fields at the national, continental and international levels, in line with Resolution 1325 and through the government's executive plan."
