Águeda, Portugal, July 12, 2024 (Lusa) - The Vouga Historical Train will once again run on Saturdays between 13 July and 31 August, taking passengers on a journey back in time between Aveiro and Macinhata do Vouga, with a stop in Águeda, the operator announced on Friday.
According to a press release from Águeda Town Hall, there will be eight journeys aboard a 20th century carriage, the result of a partnership between CP - Comboios de Portugal, the municipality of Águeda and the Macinhata do Vouga Parish Council.
Quoted in the same press release, the mayor of Águeda, Jorge Almeida, said that this was an opportunity to "enjoy our beautiful landscapes on board historic locomotives on the only narrow-gauge railway in operation in our country, a unique heritage that we like to look after and preserve".
The itinerary for each journey will start at 1.45 p.m. at Aveiro station, heading for Macinhata do Vouga, where passengers will have the opportunity to take a guided tour of the Railway Museum.
On the return journey, there will be a stop in Águeda, between 17:02 and 19:20, where visitors will be met by a guide who will take them on a tour of the city to appreciate the artistic installations that are part of the AgitÁgueda festival, which is taking place until 28 July.
The journey, which attracts many tourists, interested parties and railway enthusiasts, will end back in Aveiro, with arrival scheduled for 20:07.
The Vouga Historic Train will feature the CP 9004 diesel locomotive, a historic piece built at the end of the 1950s, which marked the end of the era of narrow gauge trains on the Guimarães Line, and five carriages that "tell" the story of the railways.
Tickets are on sale on the CP website.
