APS - LNG: Algeria ranks seventh worldwide in terms of production capacity

ALGIERS-Algeria ranks seventh worldwide and the first in Africa in terms of liquified natural gas (LNG) production with 25.56 million tons per year, up to the end of February 2024.

 

According to a report of the International Gas Union (IGU), Algeria placed seventh worldwide in terms of LNG production in Africa, ahead of Nigeria (8th position) with a production capacity of 22.2 million tons per year and Egypt (10th position) with 12.2 million tons. 

 

The United States top the ranking with 91.4 million tons per year, followed by Australia (87.6 million tons per year) and Qatar (77.1 million tons per year). These three countries account for more than half of the world's production capacity.

 

Malaysia comes fourth with a production capacity of 32 million tons per year, ahead  of Indonesia (30.3 million tons per year), Russia (29.1 million tons per year), Algeria, Nigeria, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (14.8 million tons per year) and Egypt.

 

Besides, Algeria’s LNG exports soared by 2.88 million tons compared to 2022, bringing its total exports to 13 million tons, with a market share of 3%. The report also focused on the main LNG trade flows between regions in 2023, ranking Algeria-Turkey exchanges (4.29 million tons) and Algeria-France (3.20 million tons) the first and third most significant LNG: Algeria ranks seventh worldwide in terms of production capacity
