Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock index lower with Galp falling 1.8%

Lisbon, Oct. 9, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market reversed its slight downward trend on Friday, with Galp shares falling by 1.81% to €22.28 and Mota-Engil shares rising by 2.27% to €4.69.

At around 9:35 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI stood at 9,348.11 points, down 0.01%, with 12 companies rising, three falling and one remaining unchanged (Sonae at €2.09).

Galp's shares were followed by NOS and BCP, which fell 1.52% to €5.19 and 0.44% to €1.13, respectively.

Meanwhile, shares in EDP Renováveis, Jerónimo Martins and Ibersol rose by 1.81% to €12.39, 1.27% to €17.49 and 1.12% to €9.97, respectively.

CTT, Corticeira Amorim and Navigator rose by 0.96% to €5.78, 0.89% to €6.78 and 0.58% to €3.10.

More modestly, EDP and Semapa rose by 0.56% to €4.81 and 0.52% to €19.34, respectively.

The other two companies whose share prices rose were Teixeira Duarte (0.22% to €0.45) and REN (0.14% to €3.55).

Across Europe, the main stock exchanges opened higher on Friday, buoyed by the fall in oil prices after US President Donald Trump stated that he would not attack Iran before the 3 November US elections.

The euro rose against the dollar, trading above $1.12 and gaining 0.17% to $1.1230 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market, after reaching this week's low of $1.116, its lowest level since May 2025, due to a strong dollar and uncertainty over the French budget.

Markets reacted today to the fall in sovereign bond yields and oil prices.

The price of the benchmark Brent crude contract in Europe fell 1.11% to $103.12 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the benchmark in the United States (US), also fell 0.79% to $90.77 per barrel.

Yields on German 10-year bonds, considered Europe's safest, fell to 3.462% from 3.492%, while those on French 10-year bonds fell to 4.835% from 4.893%.

Conversely, yields on 10-year US government bonds rose to 5.243%, up from 5.228% on Thursday.

US index futures are up 0.12% for the Dow Jones and 0.86% for the tech-heavy Nasdaq, having closed higher on Thursday.

Today's key events in the US include the preliminary October reading of the consumer sentiment index, which analysts expect to show further change due to inflation and the recent rise in key interest rates, and Delta Air Lines' third-quarter results.
