ANSA - Italy's inactivity rate down to record low of 32.7% says Istat

Around 12.124 million working-age people are not active on the labour market

Istat said Thursday that the proportion of working-age people in Italy who are not active on the labour market fell to 32.7% in August, the lowest level on record since the start of the data series in 2004.
    The national statistics agency said that 12,124,000 people aged 15 to 64 were inactive here in August, down by 21,000 with respect to July and by 381,000 compared to the same month in 2025.
    It said the inactivity rate was down by 0.1 of a percentage point on July and by 0.9 of a point on August 2025.
    Istat said 24.352 million people were in employment in August, a decrease of 5,000 compared to July and an increased of 291,000 compared to the same month last year.
    It said 1.591 million people were unemployed, up by 48,000 on July and by 129,000 on August 2025.
    The employment rate came in at al 63.0%, down 0.1 of a point on July, while the unemployment rate was up 0.2 of a point to 6.2%.
