Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Most stocks trading higher, driving index to 9,748.55 points

Lisbon, Sept. 30, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market traded higher Wednesday morning, with 14 of the 16 PSI rising, led by EDP and EDP Renováveis, which were up around 1.5%.

At around 9:45 a.m. in Lisbon, EDP and EDP Renováveis were up 1.53% to €4.85 and 1.49% to €12.96, respectively.

Meanwhile, the PSI was up 0.85% to 9,748.55 points, with 14 companies rising and two falling (Galp, up 0.71% to €22.34, and Ibersol, up 0.20% to €10.10).

The shares of the two EDP companies were followed by those of Semapa, BCP and Altri, which rose by 1.23% to €20.65, 1.19% to €1.24 and 1.18% to €4.74, respectively.

To a more moderate extent, REN, Teixeira Duarte and Sonae rose by 1.12% to €3.60, 1.01% to €0.50 and 0.95% to €2.13.

Jerónimo Martins, Navigator and NOS also rose, up 0.94% to €18.17, 0.87% to €3.25 and 0.75% to €5.41 respectively.

The other three companies seeing their share prices rise were CTT (up 0.64% to €6.25), Mota-Engil (up 0.58% to €5.19) and Corticeira Amorim (up 0.56% to €7.14).

Across Europe, the main stock exchanges opened higher today, as attention focused on inflation figures in various European countries and the US, with oil prices falling slightly.

The euro was stable against the dollar, rising by 0.04% to €1.1346 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.

Authorities will release inflation figures for Germany, Italy and France today.

In France, prices rose by 3% in September compared with the same month in 2025, up from 2.4% in August, whilst in Spain year-on-year inflation soared to 4.9% in September, mainly due to fuel prices.

In the US, too, the August Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (PCE) is due to be published; this is the main inflation benchmark used by the US Federal Reserve (Fed) in its projections and to guide its monetary policy.

US index futures are up 0.47% for the Dow Jones and 0.23% for the technology-heavy Nasdaq.

Markets remain focused on developments in Iran, a country that continues to assert its position in the Middle East, whilst awaiting a response from Washington following the latest meeting with mediators.

Against this backdrop, oil prices are falling, albeit moderately.

The price of the benchmark Brent crude oil contract in Europe fell by 0.29% to $102.29 per barrel.

Meanwhile, yields on ten-year US government bonds fell to 5.216%, though they remained above 5%, while the yield on ten-year German government bonds also fell to 3.562%.
