Luanda, Sept. 24, 2026 (Lusa) - The Angolan Government has announced that, by 2028, it will adopt measures to facilitate movement between neighbouring countries, including the harmonisation of tariffs and the simplification of border procedures.

This is the second phase of the Tripartite Transport and Transit Facilitation Programme (TTTFP), which was presented on Wednesday at the first ordinary meeting of the Multisectoral Commission responsible for its implementation in Angola.

The new measures include the harmonisation of tariffs, the simplification of border procedures, the strengthening of vehicle inspections and the sharing of information between countries, according to a statement issued by the presidency office of Angola.

Quoted in the statement, the Secretary of State for land transport, Jorge Bengue, explained that the aim is to reduce the barriers that hinder transport and transit between countries in the region, «by bringing the standards and procedures applied to road transport closer together».

The Multisectoral Commission is responsible for addressing «the harmonisation of driver training, the strengthening of periodic vehicle inspections, the improvement of road conditions, and the proper installation and operation of weighbridges on the main transport corridors».

According to the source, «the plan also provides for the simplification of procedures at borders and greater alignment of road tolls charged in the different countries».

Jorge Bengue pointed out that «harmonisation does not mean that all countries have to apply exactly the same rates, as there are differences in cost structures and economic conditions».

The Multisectoral Commission will also «work to improve the efficiency of logistics corridors for freight transport and to reduce journey times, particularly on the corridor linking Windhoek (Namibia), Luanda (Angola), Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Kigali (Rwanda)».
