ANSA - High energy prices push Italy's annual inflation rate up to 3.3% in August Up from 2.9% in July

Istat said Wednesday that soaring energy prices linked to the Iran war took Italy's annual inflation rate to 3.3% in August, up from 2.9% in July, confirming the preliminary estimate it gave at the end of last month.
It is Italy's highest annual inflation rate since September 2023, when it stood at 5.3%.
"The acceleration of inflation was mainly due to the dynamics of prices of non-regulated energy products (from +11.4% to +17.0%), of regulated energy products (from +14.8% to +18.6%), of durable goods (from +0.7% to +1.3%) and, to a lesser extent, of unprocessed food (from +3.6% to +3.8%)," the national statistics agency said.
Istat said its national consumer price index (NIC) was up 0.5% in month-on-month terms.
It said core inflation (excluding energy and unprocessed food) was up 1.5% in August, down from 1.6% in July.
