Lusa - Business News - Macau: Mozambique to make debut at sustainable tropical timber forum

Macau, China, Sept. 15, 2026 (Lusa) - Mozambique's secretary of state for Land and the Environment is due to visit Macau, marking Mozambique's debut at an annual event on the sustainable trade in tropical timber, the Macau Government said on Tuesday.

According to a statement, the Global Legal & Sustainable Timber Forum (GLSTF), scheduled for 22 and 23 September, will feature, «for the first time», «senior officials from Mozambique and an official delegation from Mexico».

The Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) emphasised that these first-time participations «further strengthen» the territory's role as a platform for cooperation between China and Portuguese Language Countries and Spanish-speaking countries.

China established Macau as an economic and trade platform for Portuguese Language Countries in 2003. More than two decades later, the Government broadened its focus to include Spanish-speaking countries.

According to the GLSTF programme, Mozambican Secretary Gustavo Djedje will be one of the keynote speakers at the Forum's opening, alongside ministers from Thailand, Cameroon and the Central African Republic.

The programme also states that Mozambique's National Director of Forests and Wildlife, Imede Falume, will take part in a forum with officials from China, Ghana and Indonesia.

The GLSTF will also feature Bruno Leão, director of the Association of Timber Exporting Industries of the State of Pará, in northern Brazil, and the vice-president of the Brazilian Association of the Mechanically Processed Timber Industry, Ivan Tomaselli.

IPIM stated that the Forum is expected to attract participants from 49 countries and regions, including Gabon, Togo, Malaysia, Ecuador, Peru, Switzerland and France.

The event is set to mark the start of preparations for the development of an international standard for biomass-based aviation fuel and the Macau Green Standards Management System.
