Lisbon, Sept. 11, 2026 (Lusa) - The price per litre of diesel is expected to rise by four cents and that of petrol to fall by six cents next week, should the current trend continue, according to estimates by the Automobile Club of Portugal (ACP).
Based on current figures from the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG), and taking into account forecasts of price movements based on Thursday's market close, the average price of regular diesel is expected to reach €2.152 per litre, whilst that of 95-octane petrol is expected to fall to €2.040 per litre.
The final average will be confirmed at the end of the day and may still change depending on developments in international oil prices; the final price at the pump may vary by petrol station, brand and location.
Fuel prices continue to be affected by the war in Iran, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the resulting closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 per cent of oil and natural gas trade passes.
Brent crude, Europe's benchmark, fell 3% to $104 per barrel this morning, but remained 9.5% higher than last Friday morning's price ($95).
