TIRANA, September 5/ATA/ Governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko stressed that central bank credibility is vital for strong institutions, effective monetary policy and stable economies.
Sejko made the statement during the high-level conference organized by the Central Bank of Montenegro, on September 3-4, in the framework of its 25th anniversary.
In the panel “Credibility, monetary policy space and approximation with the EU in a challenging environment”, he underlined that trust is built through strong institutions, stable policies and transparent communication.
Referring to Albania, Sejko highlighted the inflation-targeting regime, flexible exchange rate, and alignment of the financial framework with European standards.
We also modernized our payment infrastructure to improve efficiency.
Sejko praised Albania's membership in SEPA and highlighted the importance of TIPS Clone, the fast payment system expected to become operational in November 2026 and which aims to bring time and cost savings to individuals and businesses.
Another topic discussed was the approximation with the European Union regulatory framework and the maintenance of macroeconomic and financial stability during the reform process.
Governor Sejko emphasized that European integration and the fulfillment of the mandates of central banks to maintain monetary and financial stability complement each other. Harmonization with EU standards also contributes to strengthening the effectiveness of policies undertaken by central banks.
During his visit to Montenegro, Governor Sejko also held meetings with IMF representatives Mateusz Szczurek, Director of the European Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and governors of central banks in the region, where economic and financial developments and European integration were discussed. /e.xh/ /a.g/p.s./
