Praia, Aug. 26, 2026 (Lusa) - Cabo Verde and China have signed a bilateral cooperation agreement in Beijing in the fields of broadcasting and online audiovisual media, which provides for the exchange of content and programmes, as well as the training of media professionals.
«The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of media, through the exchange of radio, television and online audiovisual content and programmes, as well as the sharing of experiences, knowledge and best practice,» reads a statement from Cabo Verde's Ministry of Justice.
Cabo Verde's minister responsible for the portfolio, Clóvis Silva, signed the agreement while attending the 7th China-Africa Forum, held between 19 and 21 August in the Chinese capital.
The agreement also provides for joint initiatives to train and upskill professionals, as well as cooperation in areas relating to technological innovation and the digital transformation of the media.
The cooperation also encompasses the exchange of experiences and knowledge between professionals from both countries, against a backdrop of Cabo Verde's growing commitment to the digital transformation of the media.
«The signing of this agreement marks a further step in strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation between Cabo Verde and China, opening up new opportunities for exchange and collaboration in the media sector,» the statement added.
The agreement comes in a year in which Cape Verde and China are marking 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, with Cabo Verde's government describing China as a strategic and trusted partner, with bilateral cooperation extending across various sectors.
In February, the two countries signed new economic and technical cooperation agreements, including a development agreement worth around €12.7 million and a project to refurbish three secondary schools.
The two countries have also strengthened cooperation in education, health, security, and infrastructure.
Earlier this month, Cabo Verde and China moved forward with a project to refurbish three schools, whilst China donated medical equipment to the country's main hospital and maintains a medical team there.
In the field of infrastructure and economic development, the two countries also signed a memorandum this month with the China Machinery Engineering Corporation for projects in the areas of energy, water, agriculture and the integrated development of São Vicente and the Northern Islands, providing for the mobilisation of technology, engineering, investment and financing.
