Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes with benchmark index up 0.4%

Lisbon, Aug. 24, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed in positive territory on Monday, with the PSI rising 0.4% to 9,391.96 points, on a day when Jerónimo Martins led the gains, whilst Galp Energia held back more significant rises.

Of the 16 listed companies that make up the national benchmark index, 12 closed in the green, three in the red, and Corticeira Amorim ended unchanged, trading at €6.99.

Leading the PSI's gains was Jerónimo Martins, which rose 3.08% to €18.08, followed by Ibersol, which advanced 1.10% to €10.10, and CTT, which gained 1.01% to €6.47.

Among the index ‘heavyweights', in addition to Jerónimo Martins, BCP rose by 1% to €1.11, whilst EDP rose by 0.39% to €4.64 and EDP Renewables rose by 0.22% to €13.50.

In the pulp and paper sector, Navigator rose by 0.61% to €3.30, Altri rose by 0.53% to €4.77 and Semapa gained 0.24% to €20.75.

Sonae SGPS rose by 0.75% to €2.02, NOS gained 0.33% to €4.89 and Teixeira Duarte advanced by 0.10% to €0.48.

Bucking the trend and preventing more significant gains was, above all, Galp Energia, which fell 2.28% to €21.43.

Meanwhile, Mota-Engil lost 0.31% to €4.50 and REN fell 0.28% to €3.54.

In the other major European markets, Spain's IBEX-35 rose by 0.69%, whilst the UK's FTSE 100 gained 0.35%. By contrast, France's CAC-40 lost 0.37% and Germany's DAX fell by 0.11%.
