Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stocks green across the board with index hitting 9,365.14 points

Lisbon, Aug. 21, 2026 (Lusa) - The main Portuguese stock market index, the PSI, remained in positive territory on Friday morning, rising by 0.89% after an hour and a half of trading, with all 16 listed companies in the green.

At 9:30 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI maintained the trend seen at the open and was up 0.89% to 9,365.14 points, with Jerónimo Martins leading the gains.

The retailer was up 1.77% to €17.29, one of four stocks with gains of over 1%.

Also in this range were Sonae (+1.26% to €2.01), EDP Renewables (+1.25% to €13.72) and BCP (+1.10% to €1.10).

Mota-Engil rose by 0.85% to €4.51, Ibersol by 0.81% to €9.96, Teixeira Duarte by 0.74% to €0.48 and REN by 0.71% to €3.57.

CTT rose by 0.63% to €6.37, Corticeira Amorim by 0.59% to €6.82, Altri by 0.53% to €4.74 and NOS by 0.50% to €4.85.

Shares with movements of less than 0.5% included EDP (up 0.49% to €4.67), Semapa (up 0.25% to €20.35), Navigator (up 0.19% to €3.24) and Galp (up 0.05% to €21.78).

The positive trend mirrored movements on the main European stock markets, which are awaiting further details on the measures the United States is expected to impose on Iran.

On Thursday, Wall Street closed with losses across the three main indices, with the Dow Jones falling by 1.32%, the Nasdaq losing 1% and the S&P 500 down 0.87%.

The price of a barrel of Brent crude fell by 0.36% to $93.40, although the US administration's economic plan against the Iranian regime is not yet known.

The euro was trading at $1.1696, whilst the prices of an ounce of gold and an ounce of silver rose by 0.91% and 1.27%, respectively, to $4,560.6 and $68.95.

Bitcoin, meanwhile, maintained its upward trend, rising by 4.89% to $76,578.23.
