Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stocks trading in positive territory in line with Europe

Lisbon, Aug. 17, 2026 (Lusa) - The Portuguese stock market remained in positive territory on Monday morning, with the main index, the PSI, rising by 0.04% to 9,258.57 points, in line with European markets.

Around half an hour after the market opened, of the 16 listed companies that make up the main index, 11 were posting gains, Sonae remained unchanged at €2.02, and four – Jerónimo Martins (-0.12% to €17.19), Corticeira Amorim (-0.15% to €6.75), Altri (-0.21% to €4.74) and CTT (-0.24% to €6.30) – were trading below their opening levels.

On the upside, Teixeira Duarte and Ibersol rose by 0.92% to €0.50 and €9.90 respectively, followed by NOS, which advanced by 0.66% to €4.88.

In the energy sector, all listed companies were posting gains, with EDP Renováveis up 0.52% to €13.66, Galp Energia up 0.38% to €20.89 and EDP up 0.35% to €4.56.

REN shares were up 0.28% to €3.55, after Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced at the end of the weekend, during his speech at the 50th Festa do Pontal, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro had announced that the «Portuguese State had reached an agreement with a Spanish group to acquire 13.7% of REN», an investment that forms part of the sovereign wealth fund «which is currently being set up» and which is part of a policy to lay «the foundations for a more competitive and productive economy».

Meanwhile, in his speech marking the PS's return to political activity, delivered at a popular festival in Olhão, in the district of Faro, José Luís Carneiro put several questions to the prime minister, one of which concerned the announcement of the State's acquisition of 13.7% of REN, asking «what the source of funding is and what the purchase price is».

Semapa shares rose by 0.25% to €20.35, Mota-Engil shares rose by 0.22% to €4.56, Navigator shares rose by 0.12% to €3.23, and BCP shares rose by 0.05% to €1.10.

In the previous session, the Lisbon stock market remained unchanged at 9,254.52 points, against a largely selective European backdrop.

The main European markets were trading higher, with gains ranging from 0.44% in Milan (FTSE MIB) to 0.02% in Paris (CAC 40).
