Lusa - Business News - Angola: Unitel services back up a week after cyberattack

Luanda, Aug. 6, 2026 (Lusa) — Unitel announced on Thursday that it had fully restored its mobile voice, messaging, data and internet access services, one week after a cyberattack that affected Angola's largest telecoms operator.

In a statement to the market, the operator said it had completed the restoration of services on 5 August, including those of third parties reliant on its network, which had been affected by the cyberattack that occurred in the early hours of 28 July.

The company reiterated that it had been the target of «a deliberate and targeted attack» on its technological infrastructure, which caused partial service outages across the country, and that it had immediately activated containment mechanisms and business continuity plans, with the restoration taking place gradually.

Unitel stated that over the coming days, it will continue to optimise and monitor its infrastructure and restore complementary systems to normal operation, advising users to contact customer support if they experience any disruptions.

The operator stated that it is collaborating with the national authorities and partners specialising in cybercrime to investigate the relevant aspects of the incident, and has undertaken to disclose any findings that do not compromise information security or hinder the ongoing investigation.

The company «strongly» condemned the attack and considered that the investments made in strengthening its cybersecurity model had enabled it to bring the incident under control and ensure a «gradual and structured» recovery of services.

Unitel also thanked the authorities for their cooperation, in particular government bodies, the defence and state security agencies, regulators and companies in the sector and reaffirmed its commitment to the reliability, security and quality of its services.
