Luanda, July 29, 2026 (Lusa) — Telecoms operator Unitel stated on Wednesday that the cyberattack it suffered had been reported to the relevant authorities and that it is working with international partners to trace its origin, considering cybercrime to be one of the main challenges facing businesses.
This assurance was given by the operator's chair, Aguinaldo Jaime, at the listing ceremony on the Angolan Debt and Securities Exchange (BODIVA), which marked the company's debut on the stock market.
He addressed the cybersecurity incident that affected part of the company's technological infrastructure and which remains unresolved after almost 36 hours, adding that internal teams and international partners have been mobilised and are working continuously to contain the incident and investigate its source.
He emphasised that cybercrime is one of the greatest challenges facing organisations, arguing that leading companies are distinguished not by never being targeted by attacks, but by the way they respond, and highlighting that Unitel has been investing in security technologies.
The operator, he continued, is collaborating with the authorities to help bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
He reaffirmed his commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting partners and shareholders, to whom he conveyed a message of confidence, assuring them that Unitel is prepared to meet the challenges of the digital age.
He described the listing on the stock market as a new phase in the company's life, characterised by greater corporate responsibility, higher standards of transparency, a firmer commitment to sustainable value creation and closer ties with investors.
The operation demonstrates confidence in the ability of national companies to establish themselves as sound institutions. The listing on the stock market not only alters the shareholder structure but also the way in which Unitel relates to shareholders and other stakeholders.
The ceremony at the stock market took place at a time when the operator's more than 21 million customers still had no access to Unitel's network and services.
