NNA - Lebanon’s National Committee on International Humanitarian Law on Friday met under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri to review efforts to document violations of international humanitarian law.

Mitri announced plans to establish a permanent observatory, in cooperation with international partners, to monitor and document violations. He said a team of experts appointed by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is independently investigating alleged violations in Lebanon. He also noted continued Israeli non-cooperation on the detainees file and announced preparations for an international conference on the law of armed conflict to be held in Amman in November.
