Luanda, June 18, 2026 (Lusa) - Angola's president said on Thursday that he hoped the recent agreements between the United States and Iran would mark the beginning of a lasting peace in the Middle East and encourage the creation of the State of Palestine.
Speaking at the opening of the Angola Investment Summit 2026, which began in Luanda on Thursday, the president of Angola noted that the world was facing a “particularly demanding” period for the international community due to the multiple challenges posed by climate change and persistent armed conflicts.
He said that the current international situation “requires collective responses” and a renewed commitment to the principles of multilateralism, dialogue and international cooperation.
“Peace remains the key prerequisite for development, for without stability there can be no investment or economic growth,” he said in his address at this forum organised by Angola's government in partnership with the Global Tourism Forum Institute (GTFI).
In this context, he continued, tourism takes on an important human and diplomatic dimension by fostering encounters between peoples and cultures, “thereby contributing to the strengthening of mutual understanding, tolerance and cooperation between nations”.
“It is therefore essential that all countries, multilateral organisations and regional mechanisms continue to prioritise dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of conflicts,” he concluded.
The international summit on investment, tourism, innovation and economic development is bringing together more than 1,000 participants, including sovereign wealth funds, development banks, institutional investors, global tour operators, hotel groups, policy-makers, and others.
