Italian exports increased by 8.8% in value and by 3.5% in volume in April with respect to the same month last year, but they decreased in value terms by 2.2% compared to March, Istat said on Monday.
The national statistics agency said imports were up 5.5% year-on-year and down 0.6% month-on-month.
It said that, compared to March 2026, exports fell both to EU countries (-2.1%) and to non-EU countries (-2.4%), while imports declined by 2.1% for the EU area but grew by 1.3% for non-EU area.
With respect to April 2025, exports grew by 5.9% for EU countries and by 12.0% for non-EU countries, while imports rose by 5.2% for EU area and by 5.9% for non-EU area.
Istat said Italy had a trade surplus of €4.293 billion in April, a figure that rises €9.462 billion excluding energy.
