CNA - Significant fuel price drops expected, Consumer Protection Service Director tells CNA

Significant additional reductions in retail fuel prices are expected in the coming days, beyond the decreases already recorded over the past month, according to a statement made to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) by Constantinos Karagiorgis, Director of the Consumer Protection Service of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry.

At the same time, both Karagiorgis and Savvas Prokopiou, President of the Pancyprian Association of Gas Station Owners, told CNA that retail fuel prices had fallen over the past month, with the average reduction in diesel prices reaching 13.5 cents per litre.

Specifically, the Director of the Consumer Protection Service said that retail fuel prices had been on a downward trend over the past month, resulting in an average decrease of 13.5 cents per litre for diesel and 2.4 cents per litre for 95-octane unleaded petrol.

He further noted that refinery prices (Platts) have been declining significantly in recent weeks, a trend that is also reflected in the fuel shipments arriving in Cyprus.

According to figures released by the Service today (11 June), the average nationwide price of 95-octane unleaded petrol stands at €1.586 per litre, with the lowest price at €1.525 and the highest at €1.699.

The average price of diesel stands at €1.739 per litre, with the lowest price at €1.669 and the highest at €1.892.

The average price of heating oil stands at €1.391 per litre, with the lowest price at €1.338 and the highest at €1.479.
