APS - 2nd Timimoun International Short Film Festival opens call for submissions

ALGIERS - Submissions are now open for the competition of the 2nd Timimoun International Short Film Festival, scheduled to take place this November in Timimoun. Applications will be accepted until June 30, according to the festival’s organizing committee.

The official competition features three distinct categories: short fiction, short documentary, and short animated film.

The jury will present several official awards, including the Golden Gourara for Best Short Fiction, Best Short Documentary, and Best Short Animated Film. Additional accolades include prizes for Film Clubs, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Acting Performance (male and female), and the Tinerkouk Prize for Best African Film.

To participate, films must have been produced in 2025 or 2026 and have a running time between 10 and 40 minutes. Furthermore, entries must be subtitled in Arabic or English, and each director is limited to a single submission.

Organizers invited applicants to submit their entries exclusively through the festival’s official FilmFreeway page under the name: Timimoun International Short Film Festival.

The short film is "regarded as an independent cinematic form to generate new modes of storytelling and visual expression, while opening up broader space for experimentation and the discovery of new cinematic voices," the committee stated.

In a spirit of artistic and cultural exchange, the festival "opens up to short film experiences from around the world" by presenting works that reflect the diversity of contemporary cinematic visions, styles, and languages, the source added.

The inaugural edition of the festival, held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, took place last November and featured 62 films from 31 countries, with Senegal celebrated as the guest of honor.
