Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Recovery plan disburses over €12 B mainly to companies

Lisbon, April 20, 2026 (Lusa) – Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), an EU-funded post-pandemic economic recovery package) had paid over €12 billion to beneficiaries, mostly companies, by last week, the latest monitoring report says.

Total payments reached just over €12 billion, equalling 54% of the contracted value and 55% of the approved amount.

This represents a €60 million increase over the previous week. Companies received the highest amounts at figures above €4.2 billion, followed by public entities with almost €2.5 billion. Local councils and metropolitan areas received just over €1.8 billion, while public companies took around €1.3 billion.

Entities receiving less than €1 billion include schools (€617 million), higher education institutions (€457 million), social economy organisations (€404 million), scientific and technological bodies (€323 million) and households (€309 million). Project approvals totalled over €24 billion, up from €24.500 billion previously reported. Companies also lead approvals with just over €8 billion, followed by public entities at approximately €4.8 billion and local councils with €4.75 billion.

Public companies account for €2.813 billion.

Higher education institutions followed with €997 million, schools with €987 million, social economy organisations with €851 million and scientific bodies with €750 million. Households received €470 million.

The execution rate remains at 61%.

The plan received over 508,000 applications by Wednesday, with over 472,000 analysed.

Approved applications reached figures above 375,000, up by 700. The RRP implements reforms and investments to recover economic growth.
