Luanda, April 13, 2026 (Lusa) - Angola's state-owned electricity supplier announced on Monday that teams are working continuously to restore power to central Luanda and surrounding areas and condemned a "serious act of sabotage" that toppled high-voltage pylons.
Weekend rains in Angola, combined with acts of vandalism, affected the electricity supply in several parts of the country.
According to the National Energy Transport Network (RNT), a serious act of sabotage following Saturday's rains caused five high-voltage pylons to collapse. This severely affected the power supply in the Ingombota district, in central Luanda, and adjacent areas.
The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, visited the site on Sunday and expressed "profound condemnation" of the sabotage, the RNT said in a statement.
More than 45,000 families lost power in Luanda province, where several parts of the city remain without electricity.
The Ministry of Energy and Water and sector companies "reiterate their commitment to work uninterruptedly until the total normalisation of the electrical system." Authorities appealed for maximum public cooperation in reporting any suspicious activity near electrical infrastructure.
