The number of people in employment in Italy fell by 29,000 in February with respect to January but was up by 13,000 compared to February 2025, Istat said on Wednesday.
    The national statistics agency said 24.149 million people were in work here in February.
    Istat said the employment rate fell by 0.1 of a percentage point with respect to January to 62.4% in February.
    It said Italy's unemployment rate was up by 0.1 of a point to 5.3% after the number of people on the dole here rose by 36,000 month-on-month.
    But the jobless rate for under-25s who are active on the labour market dropped by one percentage point to 17.6%.
