Lisbon, April 1, 2026 (Lusa) - The cabinet office minister, António Leitão Amaro, said on Wednesday that RTP (Portugal’s state broadcaster) must not withdraw from specific countries, mainly Guinea-Bissau, due to temporary difficulties, simultaneously challenging Angola to deepen the footprint of RTP Africa radio within its borders.
The Government was prepared to increase investment in the capacity of this community project, while respecting the identity, independence, and specific interests of each partner nation, he said, inviting other entities, such as the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries), to join as a community.
Describing it as a brotherhood that ought to be built as such, Amaro advocated for broader collaboration, calling upon the Lisbon-based Gulbenkian Foundation to join in efforts directed towards African partner countries.
“For our part, we are here not merely to lend weight to our words, but to put the resources at the service of the promises we have made,” concluded the minister.
