Lusa - Business News - Portugal: PSI trends higher as Semapa leads gains, climbing over 2.5%

Lisbon, March 25, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock exchange was trading higher on Wednesday, with 13 of the PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) index’s constituents making gains, led by Semapa, which rose 2.59% to almost €22.

The PSI maintained its opening momentum, at 09:15 a.m in Lisbon, advancing 0.83% to 8,955.18 points, with 13 companies rising and three falling (NOS, -0,94% to €5,27, Galp, -0,62% to approximately €21 and Sonae, -0,32% to almost €2).

Semapa announced this week that it had finalised the sale of Secil to Molins, valued at €1.081 billion, with an estimated capital gain of €400 billion.

Semapa’s shares were followed by those of Mota-Engil, EDP Renováveis and Ibersol, which rose by 1.96% to €4.36, 1.93% to €13.21 and 1.85% to €11.00, respectively. Several other stocks saw gains exceeding 1%, such as BCP up 1.66% to €0.82, Navigator with 1.51% to €3.23, Teixeira Duarte which rose 1.45% to €0.42 and CTT with 1.18% to €6.02.

Meanwhile, Altri rose 0,96% to almost €5, EDP 0,90% to €4,36, with Jerónimo Martins and Corticeira Amorim both gaining 0.79% to €20,32 and €6,40. REN also saw a modest increase (0,27% to €3,77).

Major European markets opened in positive territory on Wednesday after the US sent Iran a 15-point plan to end the war, which sent oil prices down by more than 4%.

The euro remained stable, falling 0.02% to $1.1607 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market, compared with $1.1608 on Tuesday.

The price of Brent oil, Europe's benchmark, for May delivery fell by almost 5% to $99.35.

Natural gas for April delivery on the Dutch TFF market fell by 7.11% to €50.200 per megawatt-hour (MWh).

On Tuesday, investors had to deal with a number of conflicting messages regarding the rapprochement between the US administration and some Iranian officials, contacts that reportedly aimed to end the current conflict in the Middle East. The main European stock market indices, after considerable fluctuation, closed the day mostly up slightly.

The Iranian Army denied on Wednesday that negotiations with Washington were taking place in response to statements by US President Donald Trump, announcing a new wave of attacks against Israel in support of Hezbollah.

US index futures pointed to gains of 1.17% for the Nasdaq and 0.18% for the Dow Jones.

According to the European macroeconomic agenda, the UK inflation rate remained at 3% in February, unchanged from January and therefore at its lowest level since March 2025.
