Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Bauer Media Group announces new Lisbon technology hub

Lisbon, March 17, 2026 (Lusa) - Bauer Media has chosen Portugal for its new technology centre, which will oversee all the group’s digital activity, with plans to hire 15 specialists, the CEO of the Portuguese subsidiary told Lusa on Tuesday.

The group announced this Tuesday the creation of a new technology hub, reinforcing its investment, its role as a strategic base for the development and support of digital audio platforms at European level.

"This hub will be based alongside our operations (...), specifically at our headquarters at Sampaio e Pina [Lisbon], and its role will be to monitor all the Bauer Group’s digital activity – the Bauer Media Group’s offering across Europe – 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” explained the CEO of Bauer Media Audio Portugal.

In other words, “it will ensure that this 24/7 digital offering is stable, reliable, forms part of the transformation the group is currently undertaking,” continued Salvador Ribeiro, declining to disclose the investment figure.

For now, "in this initial phase, we plan to recruit 15 specialist staff; these are skilled professionals who will ensure the monitoring of our digital operations", but "we intend to increase this number".

In short, there will be "15 new recruits before the end of the year", the CEO emphasised.

Essentially, “we are talking about monitoring all activity with the capacity to intervene on our digital platforms,” added Salvador Ribeiro.

This involves “monitoring carried out using software capable of intervening should any operation experience disruption; in other words, if there is an outage, it is from Portugal that this monitoring and intervention takes place,” he emphasised.

According to the company, the hub will work in close coordination with Bauer Media teams in the UK, Ireland, Nordic countries, Central and Eastern Europe.

The choice of Lisbon “means that Portugal is beginning to play an increasingly important role within the group”, but also “that Portugal has been identified as a country with skilled talent in the technology sector – not only in Bauer's view, as this is widely recognised – that it is competitive” and “has skilled technological talent”, emphasised the CEO of Bauer Media Audio Portugal.

Therefore, “for Portugal, too, this represents a rise in importance. We are increasing the importance that Portugal holds for the group”.

"We will always work with the group, always striving to increase Portugal’s importance, to contribute to it. The audio operation we have here, Bauer Media Áudio Portugal, is the main one, but whenever we identify opportunities to increase the country’s contribution to the Bauer group, we will do so," the manager stated. "This is the first step," concluded Salvador Ribeiro.

The Portuguese subsidiary currently employs around 180 people.

According to the company, this announcement follows the launch of Rayo, Bauer Media’s new digital audio platform, which took place in Portugal on 19 January. The new team will support the continued expansion and performance of Rayo and other digital audio products across Europe.
