Funchal, Portugal, March 11, 2026 (Lusa) - Chef Rui Silvestre's Fifty Seconds restaurant in Lisbon won its second Michelin star on Tuesday at the third edition of the exclusively national gala, held in Funchal, bringing the number of establishments with this distinction in the country to nine.
Ten new restaurants also entered the Michelin Guide Portugal 2026 with one star, which distinguishes “high-level cuisine, worth stopping for”, and three had their distinction removed (Al Sud, in Lagos, Arkhe and Eleven, in Lisbon), now totalling 44 in this category in the country.
The restaurants awarded one star were A Cozinha do Paço (Afonso Dantas, Évora), MAPA (David Jesus, Montemor-o-Novo), Alameda (Rui Sequeira, Faro), Kappo (Tiago Penão, Cascais) Largo do Paço (Francisco Quintas, Amarante), dop (Rui Paula/Sandro Teixeira, Porto), Éon (Tiago Bonito, Porto), Gastro by Elemento (Ricardo Dias Ferreira, Porto), In Diferente (Angélica Salvador, Porto), and Schistó (Vítor Matos/Vítor Gomes, Peso da Régua).
The Bib Gourmand distinction, which recognises good value for money, was awarded to two new establishments - Mesa15 (Petr Kiss, Leiria) and Taberna Sakra (Hugo China Ferreira, Alverca do Ribatejo), bringing the number of restaurants with this distinction to 26.
The Michelin Guide Portugal 2026 awarded a new green star, which distinguishes sustainable gastronomy, to the restaurant A Cozinha do Paço, in Évora, run by chef Afonso Dantas, who also won his first Michelin star at this gala.
There are now seven restaurants in Portugal with a green star.
Among the new restaurants that won a Michelin star on Tuesday is In Diferente, in Porto, making chef Angélica Salvador the fourth woman to win this distinction, after Marlene Vieira (Marlene, in Lisbon) and Rita Magro (Blind, in Porto) in 2025, and Maria Alice Marto, the first Portuguese chef to receive a Michelin star in 1993, with the restaurant Tia Alice, in Fátima.
The guide also recommends 34 other restaurants on the mainland, bringing the total number of establishments with this distinction to 131.
The restaurant Fifty Seconds (Rui Silvestre, Lisbon), which received its second star (“excellent cuisine, worth the detour”), joins the eight establishments already awarded that have retained the distinction.
Portugal still does not have a maximum rating of three stars ("unique cuisine, worth the trip").
The Michelin Guide Portugal 2026 awarded the “young chef” prize to Francisco Quintas (Largo do Paço, Amarante), who also won a Michelin star at this gala.
The “sala” award, which distinguishes service, was presented to Adácio Ribeiro (Vila Vila Foz, Porto) and the “sommelier” award went to Carlos Monteiro (Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, Leça da Palmeira).
The restaurant JNĉQUOI Table (Filipe Carvalho, Lisbon) received the “Opening of the Year” award, presented for the first time this year.
