NNA - In a statement marking Diplomat’s Day on February 10, Alexander Rudakov reflected on the role of diplomacy as a profession operating "in the unpredictable space between words and their consequences," underscoring Russia’s longstanding diplomatic tradition rooted in history, restraint, and dialogue.
The Ambassador noted that Russian diplomacy was never shaped by short-term convenience but by a deep understanding that peace is not automatic, sovereignty remains fragile, and dialogue must persist even amid profound geopolitical disagreements. He stressed that the achievements of Russian diplomacy extend beyond formal agreements to include endurance, intellectual independence, and an insistence on addressing political issues in all their complexity and nuance.
Rudakov highlighted Russia’s contribution to the foundations of international law, arms control efforts, and the principle that global security must be indivisible to be effective. He linked this diplomatic approach to Russia’s own historical experience, shaped by invasions and upheavals, which fostered a culture of balance, negotiation, and respect for civilizational diversity.
Turning to the Middle East and Lebanon in particular, the Ambassador described diplomacy in the region as a daily test, noting that Russia’s engagement has been guided by respect for sovereignty, institutional continuity, and dialogue among all forces as practical means of preserving stability in complex societies.
On the occasion, he extended warm congratulations to Lebanese diplomats, praising their professionalism, resilience, and commitment to dialogue under uniquely demanding conditions. While Diplomat’s Day is largely a Russian and post-Soviet tradition, he said its spirit is universal and well understood in Lebanon.
Concluding his remarks, Rudakov emphasized that diplomacy does not promise quick or easy results, but offers something more durable: restraint, continuity, and the conviction that dialogue remains a necessity even in times of tension, values he said Russian diplomacy is committed to upholding in the years ahead.
