Lisbon, Feb. 5, 2026 (Lusa) - Rail traffic on Portugal's main Lisbon-Porto line between Castanheira do Ribatejo and Alverca, in the district of Vila Franca de Xira, in the Lisbon region, which had been suspended due to flooding of the track, resumed at 11:00, according to the passenger train operator, CP.
In a statement sent to Lusa, CP - Comboios de Portugal indicated that due to several incidents caused by bad weather, train services remain suspended on the Beira Baixa Line, between Entroncamento and Castelo Branco, on the Coimbra Urban Line and on the Northern (Lisbon-Porto) Line for long-distance services in Alfarelos (Coimbra).
According to the company, this morning on the Beira Alta Line, the Intercidades service between Coimbra and Guarda was operating using different rolling stock than usual.
On the Northern Line, regional services are operating between Entroncamento and Soure and between Tomar and Castanheira do Ribatejo.
On the Cascais Line, at 11:00 a.m., traffic between Algés and Oeiras was still running on a single track.
Rail traffic remains suspended on the Douro Line between Régua and Pocinho, the Oeste Line and the Sul Line between Ermidas do Sado and Grândola, with road transfers being provided for long-distance services.
Also this morning, Tagus River passenger ferry operator, Transtejo, announced that services in the Lisbon region between Cacilhas and Cais do Sodré stations and between Trafaria, Porto Brandão and Belém have been re-established due to improved weather and sea conditions.
These connections between the south bank of the Tagus and Lisbon had been suspended early this morning due to bad weather.
Mainland Portugal is being affected by the passage of the Leonardo depression with persistent and sometimes heavy rain and gale force gusty wind, with warnings issued by the national meteorological institute (IPMA).
Eleven people have died in Portugal since last week as a result of the passage of the Kristin and Leonardo depressions, which also caused several hundred injuries and displaced people.
The total or partial destruction of homes, businesses and equipment, falling trees and structures, the closure of roads, schools and transport services, and power, water and communications cuts, and now seroius flooding in some areas are the main material consequences of the storm.
Leiria, Coimbra and Santarém are the regions with the most damage.
The government has declared a state of calamity until next Sunday for 68 districts.
