Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Greenvolt gets €58.5M financing for Romania wind farm project

Lisbon, Feb. 4, 2026 (Lusa) - Portuguese renewable energy producer, Greenvolt has secured €58.5 million in financing for a 49.8-megawatt (MW) onshore wind project in Săcele, in the Dobruja region of south-eastern Romania, the group announced on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Greenvolt Group explained that the financing was secured from Erste Group Bank AG and Banca Comercială Română by Greenvolt Power, a developer of large-scale wind, solar and battery energy storage projects.

The wind project is already under construction and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of this year.

"Once operational, the wind farm will strengthen the Romanian electricity system's renewable energy production capacity, contributing to the country's energy security and decarbonisation goals," it said.

Quoted in the statement, Greenvolt Group CEO João Manso Neto stresses that "Central and Eastern Europe, and Romania in particular, remain strategic markets for Greenvolt," which continues there "to execute and deliver high-quality projects with a clear and tangible impact on the energy transition, essential from an environmental point of view, but also for strengthening energy independence and security, factors that are increasingly decisive for the growth and stability of countries."

Ladislav Tolmáči, head of desk project finance at Erste Group Bank, says that the financing of this project "reflects confidence in Greenvolt's path and in the long-term fundamentals of the Romanian renewable energy market," reinforcing Erste Group's commitment "to the development and strengthening of renewable energy infrastructure in Romania."

"This financing is fully in line with BCR's strategy of supporting sustainable investment and energy transition in Romania," adds Manuela Trisnevschi, head of energy and utilities at Banca Comercială Română.

In turn, Greenvolt Power's director of M&A and project finance notes that working with Erste Group Bank AG and Banca Comercială Română on this transaction "has enabled us to structure a financing solution aligned with the risk profile and development stage of this project."

"This partnership brings the Săcele wind farm closer to commissioning and strengthens our ability to move forward with multiple projects in key markets in parallel," says Adrian Góralski.

According to Greenvolt, this project in Romania strengthens the company's presence in Central and Eastern Europe, a region where the group has several utility-scale projects underway in the areas of wind, solar and battery storage.

In Romania, Greenvolt has a utility-scale pipeline of wind energy (555 MW), solar energy (77 MW) and battery energy storage (156 MW), and is also present in the distributed generation segment, providing on-site renewable energy solutions to business and industrial customers through Greenvolt Next.
