Italy's Giovanni Franzoni came close Wednesday to breaking the downhill record time set by Austrian star Josef Strobli in 1977 on Kitzbuhel's famed Streif course.
In the second pre-race run, the 24-year-old from Lake Garda, who last week became the first Italian to win a super-G on the equally iconic Lauberhorn run at Wengen, notched a time of 1'52"21, compared to Strobl's record of 1'51"58 set 48 years ago.
