Pop queen Laura Pausini said Tuesday she was going to take a break from social media saying she had developed an unhealthy addiction to them.
Italy's biggest selling recording artist said she had also changed her phone number and would remain in touch just with family members.
"In the last few weeks, with the release of 'Ritorno ad amare' (her latest single, ed.), I decided to do something concrete for myself, because this song is a stimulus to love ourselves again.
"I decided to make a vow: to delete all social media from my phone, because they were creating a sick addiction in me, and I also decided to change my phone number and stay in touch only with my family for the time being." Multiple Grammy winner and Latin Grammy diva Pausini announced her decision to distance herself from social media on an Instagram story.
"I was spending too much time in front of the screen, and this was causing me stress and anxiety.
"Sometimes I couldn't sleep because I thought I hadn't been able to read and respond to all the messages.
"Reconnecting with life is allowing me to feel more serene and more focused with real people by my side.
"With the light of the sun, not the artificial light of my smartphone," she said.
"I'll touch base here every now and then with my collaborators' phones because I don't want to lose touch with (my fans)." The post ends with a warning: "Today I logged in for 10 minutes and browsed various social media, reading news that didn't concern me, and I found unbridled hatred against everything and everyone.
"I was scared.
Be careful not to fall into this trap, which can make you really sick.
"Your health is worth more and deserves more.
We haven't been able to use social media to connect and get closer.
"They've become a place where anger and hatred are spewed."
