ATA - “Nieuw Statendam” cruise ship brings International visitors to Saranda

TIRANA, Nov 12 /ATA/ At the Port of Saranda—one of the principal gateways for tourism in southern Albania—a significant volume of passenger traffic was recorded even during the month of October.

The Director of the Port, Admir Malaj, said to ATA today that “during October 2025, a total of 54,480 passengers were recorded at the Port of Saranda, representing an increase of 15.3% compared to the same period in 2024, when the number of passengers stood at 47,254.”

Malaj reported that “in the ten-month period of this year, a total of 740,878 passengers passed through the port, compared to 605,134 during the same period last year, reflecting a significant increase of 22.4%.”

“These figures highlight a sustained growth trend in passenger traffic and a rising interest in Saranda as a tourist destination,” Malaj noted.

August recorded the highest passenger flow at the Port of Saranda, with approximately 200,000 travelers arriving and departing. Nevertheless, the autumn months of September and October also saw substantial passenger numbers on the Saranda–Corfu route in both directions.

Malaj indicated that cruise ships continue to arrive at the port.

“Yesterday, the cruise ship “Nieuw Statendam”, operated by the renowned Holland America Line, arrived at the port, carrying 2,592 passengers of various nationalities aboard. The arrival of this vessel is another testimony of the increasing interest of international tourists in Saranda, thereby contributing to the continued development of maritime tourism and the local economy,” Malaj stated.

The Port of Saranda serves not only the city itself but the entire Riviera, functioning as a key gateway for both domestic and international visitors.
