Italy is leading the way on self-driving cars in Europe with a coalition of 60 mayors showing interest, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at ceremony for the EU 2025 Mayors' Pact in Brussels Thursday.
    "Cities and towns are pioneers in the search for concrete solutions and innovations across Europe," she said.
    "In Italy, we have created a network of European cities where the first self-driving cars will be able to circulate: a coalition of 60 Italian mayors has already expressed their interest.
    Let's make this project a reality.
    "Local innovations like these are shaping the future of Europe, and we want to make your cities innovation centers," she emphasized.
