ALGIERS, 15 October 2025 (APS) - The Algeria-Spain Joint Security Commission has held its meeting in Madrid, Spain, as part of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two countries, in line with the bilateral agreement signed on security, counterterrorism and organized crime, the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport said in statement on Wednesday.
The work of the Joint Security Commission was co-chaired by the Director of Cooperation at the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport and the Director-General for International Relations and Immigration at the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, in the presence of representatives from the security departments and services of both countries, according to the statement.
The meeting is part of "the ongoing coordination and consultation between Algeria and Spain, in accordance with the bilateral agreement signed on 15 June 2008 in the field of security and the fight against terrorism and organised crime." The meeting was an opportunity for the two parties to discuss "ways to foster bilateral security cooperation and coordination" and "issues related to training programmes and the exchange of expertise in the fight against crime, in all its forms, and in combating travel document fraud." The two sides also discussed "the methods of combating illegal immigration in terms of security, and links between migrant smuggling and human trafficking networks and other criminal groups," the statement concluded.
