Italy's 2006 World Cup winning captain and former China coach Fabio Cannavaro was named Uzbekistan coach on Monday to lead the Asian team in its first World Cup finals.
    Naples-born Cannavaro, 52, a former Napoli, Parma, Inter, Juventus and Real Madrid centre back regarded as one of the best defenders in football history, has previously coached Guangzhou Evergrande (2014-2015, Al Nassr (2015-2016), Tianjin Quanjian (2016-2017), Guangzhou Evergrande (2017-2019), China (2019) Benevento (2022-2023), Udinese (2024) and Dinamo Zagreb (2024-2025).
    The Uzbek Football Federation said: "The Uzbekistan Football Federation has signed a contract with Fabio Cannavaro, the 2006 World Cup winner and one of the best defenders of the modern era.
    "He will lead our national team in preparation for the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico."
