Italy's Antitrust authority said Friday that it has fined six oil firms, Eni, Esso, Ip, Iplom, Q8, Saras and Tamoil, a total of over 936 million euros for forming a cartel in relation to the sale of motor fuel here.
The authority said an investigation it launched following a whistleblower's complaint found that the companies "implemented parallel price increases - largely coinciding - which were driven by direct or indirect information exchanges among them".
It said the cartel began on January 1, 2020, and continued until June 30, 2023.
The 336,214,660-euro fine on Italian energy giant Eni was the biggest.
