ALGIERS-The Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, said on Tuesday that Algeria's hosting of the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) mirrors its commitment to African economic integration.
Rezig was speaking at the opening of the promotional event for the Intra-African Trade Fair in Algiers, in the presence of the Minister of Domestic Trade and National Market Regulation, Tayeb Zitouni, the State Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Bakhta Selma Mansouri, the president of the IATF Advisory Council, former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, the Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Wamkele Mene, the African Union Commissioner for agriculture, rural development, blue economy and sustainable environment, Moses Vilakati, officials from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and the president of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), Kamel Moula.
In a speech on this occasion, the minister emphasized the importance of this fair, scheduled in Algiers from 4 to 10 September, given, he said, the “role of this flagship event in consecrating the spirit of cooperation and economic and commercial integration between the countries of the African continent.”
Algeria's organization of the 4th edition of this fair testifies to its commitment to strengthening intra-African trade exchanges within the framework of AfCFTA, which offers a common framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development of the continent, he added, underlining the practical measures taken by Algeria to strengthen intra-African trade, notably the launch of trade exchanges within the framework of AfCFTA, on 1 November 2024, and the development of infrastructure to have modern ports, international airports, a railway network and an extended terrestrial transport network.
He also cited the launch of several structuring projects with continental dimension, such as the trans-Saharan road project, the Tindouf-Zouerate road project connecting Algeria and Mauritania, the gas pipeline connecting Nigeria and Algeria and the trans-Saharan fiber optic backbone.
The minister also emphasized the State's efforts to improve the business climate in Algeria, by ensuring a transparent and attractive economic and institutional environment for investments, by guaranteeing the stability of legislation governing local and foreign investment, by simplifying administrative procedures and by developing the banking system, the capital market and the insurance sector, while strengthening human resources capacities.
