TIRANA, June 11/ATA/ Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro attended 2025 UN Ocean Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of France and Costa Rica, taking place from 9 to 13 June in Nice, France.
Kumbaro stated in a video-message that Albania is not only participating in this important event, but is also part of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea by signing its commitment to the governance, sustainable use and protection of marine biodiversity alongside 60 other countries in the world.
"The Albanian Parliament ratified this convention last Thursday, and today we submit it in the presence of 60 other countries, which was the mandatory number for this convention to take legal form", said Kumbaro.
Further on, Minister Kumbaro highlighted the fact that Albania ranks alongside countries that do a great job in protecting the environment and the marine environment, while maintaining the sustainable development of Albania and tourism.
“Albania is not a polluting country in the global order and does not impact climate change, but with its models it continues to be at the top of the debate tables, from the last wild river in Europe, the Vjosa River, now a National Park with 480 km of river line, to the increase in the areas of protected areas, finding a fair balance between the sustainable development of tourism, the local economy of agrotourism and environmental protection”, Kumbaro affirmed.
The Albanian Parliament approved with 71 votes in favor last week the draft law “On ratification of the agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction”.
Through the ratification of this agreement, what Albania directly benefits is the building and improvement of capacities and the transfer of maritime technology, which consists in providing support for the reinforcement of commitments. /e.i/a.f/p.s./
