Massimiliano Allegri is back in charge of AC Milan after 11 years, the seven-time European champions said on Friday.
New sporting director Igli Tare identified the 57-year-old Tuscan as the coach to revive Milan's fortunes after a disappointing season, first under Paulo Fonseca and then with Sérgio Conceição on the bench.
The club announced they had parted company with Conceição on Thursday.
Allegri won the 2010-11 Serie A title with Milan during a four-year stint in charge.
He then won five league titles and five Italian Cups and reached two Champions League finals during two spells with Juventus.
