ATA - Gonxhja: Over 3,900 visitors at National Museum of Medieval Art in Korça

TIRANA, May 24 /ATA/ The National Museum of Medieval Art in Korçë has welcomed over 3,900 visitors from January to April 2025. 

The news was shared by the Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, who also posted images from tourists’ visits to the museum. 

Gonxhja emphasized that the National Museum of Medieval Art in Korçë is one of the most significant institutions for Byzantine and post-Byzantine art in the region. It serves as an important destination for scholars and enthusiasts of medieval art and has welcomed over 3,900 visitors from January to April 2025. 

Visitors are expressing their admiration for the museum, describing it as truly wonderful. 

“A truly magnificent museum! The pastel colors add a unique value. It’s a pleasure to see the quality of the paintings and the craftsmanship of the icons. Truly a special museum!” shared a French tourist. 

Another French tourist emphasized, “It is a magnificent museum. It truly represents the richness of your cultural and religious heritage.” 

The National Museum of Medieval Art has been located in the city of Korçë since April 24, 1980. Last month, MKAM celebrated its 45th anniversary. The museum preserves Albania’s most valuable artistic heritage, created by Albanian painters over the centuries. 

The post-Byzantine paintings are exhibited in the iconographic art pavilion, featuring works from the 12th to the 14th centuries. The museum houses around 7,500 artistic objects made from stone, wood, wool, silver, and other metals. Among them, there are 1,200 unique artifacts, while approximately 6,000 are icons, most of which date back to the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.
