MAP - French-Moroccan Writer Leïla Slimani Joins Cannes Festival Jury

Paris - April 30, 2025 - (MAP) - French-Moroccan writer and novelist Leïla Slimani to join the Jury for the 78th Cannes Film Festival, scheduled on May 13-24, organizers announced on Monday.

The Jury will award the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) to one of the 21 films in the running, following Sean Baker's "Anora", presented by Greta Gerwig's Jury in 2024, according to a Festival press release.

Chaired by French actress Juliette Binoche, this year's Jury includes, American actress and filmmaker Halle Berry, Indian director and screenwriter Payal Kapadia and Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher.

Congolese director, documentary filmmaker and producer Dieudo Hamadi, Korean director and screenwriter Hong Sangsoo, Mexican director and producer Carlos Reygadas and American actor Jeremy Strong are also on the jury.

The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony on May 24, according to the same source.

Leïla Slimani published her first novel "In the garden of the ogre" in 2014, which earned critical acclaim and was nominated for the 2014 Prix de Flore literary prize. Her novels will then go to win several awards including the 2016 Prix Goncourt.
