HINA - Support programme for female filmmakers in Southeast Europe launched

ZAGREB, 24 Dec (Hina) - The UNIQA SEE Future Foundation has launched a Support Programme for Female Filmmakers in several Southeast European countries, in collaboration with the Sarajevo Film Festival and Slano Film Days.

The goal of the programme is to empower women in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania, and Montenegro in independent film production, representation and diversity of women in the regional film industry, networking, skill development, and financing opportunities for women in film.

The programme provides financial support for the production of their film projects, as well as career development through the CineLink Industry Training and Skills Programme. Its total value is €150,000 for 2025, and the programme has been approved for the following two years.

The call for applications is open until 19 February at https://vp.eventival.com/sarajevoff/2025 for female directors or co-directors and at least one other key female collaborator (screenwriter, cinematographer, composer, editor). Applications are also open to individuals from other countries, provided they have a producer or co-producer from one of the Southeast European countries mentioned.

Adel Bahtanović, president of UNIQA SEE, said that in addition to promoting diversity and advancing equality in the film industry, this project aims to inspire young female directors to use their talents to educate, inform, and share their unique perspectives, creating a more inclusive world for everyone.

Mirsad Purivatra, the concept creator and director of Slano Film Days, said this initiative reflects their commitment to promoting women in the film industry. He added that 25 directors have participated in Slano Film Days so far, 16 of whom have been women.

Jovan Marjanović, director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, said the programme reflects the Festival's commitment to improving gender equality.
